MY DEAD FRIEND ZOE is a dark comedy-drama that follows Merit (Sonequa Martin-Green), a U.S. Army veteran in Afghanistan, who is at odds with her family over the journey of Zoe (Natalie Morales), her deceased best friend from the military. Despite the persistence of a VA counselor (Morgan Freeman), the love of a strict mother (Gloria Reuben), and an unexpected love interest, Merit’s cozy and dysfunctional friendship with Zoe keeps the duo isolated from the world. That is, until Merit’s grandfather (Ed Harris) – ensconced in the family’s ancestral lake house – starts to go wrong and needs the one thing he’s been refusing to give up… help. It’s essentially a buddy movie about a complicated friendship, a broken family, and the complexities of grieving.
